Travis has a Degree of Bachelor of Science with a major in Criminal Justice from Minot State University. Travis also obtained a certificate in Mediation Skills through Resolution Skills Center in 2015.
Prior to Westman Mediation Services Travis worked for 6 years as a Correctional Officer, Parole Officer and Correctional Supervisor at Stony Mountain Institution, Correctional Service of Canada. Travis became interested in Restorative Justice while working in the federal institution. In 2007, he found his calling and became a Restorative Justice Facilitator at Westman Mediation Services. For the first 8 years, Travis focused on diversions from the Provincial Courts and did Victim-Offender mediation. In January of 2016, Travis became the Restorative Justice Coordinator for Westman Mediation Services and now oversees the Restorative Justice program in the Westman and Parkland regions.
To this day, Travis continues to provide training in Restorative Justice for the Police Studies program at Assiniboine Community College for recruits who are looking to pursue a career in Policing/Corrections. He also continues to instruct/evaluate at Assiniboine Community College for the First Nations Security Officer/ Band constable program and provides non-violent crisis intervention training. Travis also continues to do presentations about Restorative Justice for all Law classes in High Schools/Post Secondary and is a trained Facilitator for Interpersonal Conflict Resolution and Mediation Skills.
During Travis’s tenure at Westman Mediation Services, he also opened his own private practice “Mediation Solutions” and focused on providing mediation on child custody matters and separation/custody disputes.
Michelle Bio:
After earning a Master’s of Arts Degree from Simon Fraser University, with a specific focus on Restorative Justice, Michelle worked in various areas of the social service sector. Michelle joined Westman Mediation Services in 2016. Michelle brought her passion for the values of restorative justice, particularly treating people with respect, empathy and compassion. Michelle, with the help of her personal therapy dog, assists clients in a non judgemental way with their mediation needs.
In her current position, Michelle earned her Mediation certification and conducts criminal and civil mediations. Michelle also works with clients going through the restorative justice process, and assists victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. In addition, Michelle provides training for, and oversees and supervisors volunteers from nine Community Justice Committees. In addition to her primary job functions, Michelle believes that more can be done to prevent incidents, so she delivers the following skill-based presentations: Social Media and the Law, Conflict Resolution, Mediation Skills, Introduction to Restorative Justice and Restorative Justice in Schools.
Travis and Michelle have presented on the topic of Mediation and Restorative Justice at various national and international restorative justice conferences.
Michelle also has a dog, Alfie that she often brings to work, as he is learning to be a therapy dog
